Abertura da Escola

The school had its opening ceremony a month after my first and second year classes had started and a month and two weeks after the third year and fourth years had started their school year. Whatever, this is Mozambique! I was happy to have one. Well, as you can see from the photos of the bigwigs (Our director, Mario Jessen, the Rector of Eduardo Mondlane University, a representative from the government, and our keynote speaker, some business man that spoke about the challenges of tourism in Mozambique. At the table of honor, it wasn't such an captivating occasion. The keynote speaker spoke a bit too long and I was amazed that everyone showed their disapproval by moving around in their seats and moaning and groaning when he said he "just wanted to finish up." One of the highlights for me was watching the photographer and video guy. As the photos show, they were just as much a spectacle as the bigwigs.

Another highlight was my student, Célio, doing one of his CRAZY excellent poems for the school and receiving the best applause and hooting and hollering.
