Well, I am pretty tired from traveling so there aren't many interesting stories just yet but after arriving at the airport I walked out of the plane and immediately connected to the smell. It was a pure smell. Not spicy or heavy or dense or complicated. Just a smell that comes with warm heat. My skin immediately took on a red and wet and shiny hue.
I was greeted by one of the Embassy drivers (He had a cute sign with my name--i am such a dork, I've never been picked up at the airport like that before--shut up). He helped me with my luggage, we went through customs where a mean man with white gloves had me open my suitcase, stuck his hand in and moved my junk around a little bit, asked me if I had anything to declare (I said no), then finally he crossed his arms and we walked away.
After leaving the airport I was greeted by the cultural assistant and the Embassy. He has helped me so much with my preparations to come. (I will post a funny story about him later.) We then got into a mini van with all my stuff and they whisked me off to the Hotel Terminus, my home for the next 5 days.
