Pig Island

A bunch of friends and I decided to go to Pig Island (Ilha dos Porcos) this weekend.  Luckily, a group of students had organized their own trip so we just tagged along.  The whole trip was 2 bucks, not including food.  We brought a picnic (I made tortilla española...yummy).  There was fruit, PB&J, cheese, cookies, salad, fried manioc, passion fruit, tangerines, oranges, and juice. Some of us toured the island, sunbathed, swam, walked around the beach, saw the pigs, climbed coconut trees, chatted, and otherwise relaxed and enjoyed the company.
I thought the day was going to be a wash after we got a late start and when arriving at the port to catch our sailboat (dhow) we saw that it was lowtide and there was no water.  We then started an hour walk through Mukukuni village, located across the bay from Inhambane City.  It was actually a pleasant walk but it would have been nice to know we were going to hike beforehand.  Learning curve, I guess.  So after finding our boat we got aboard and it took about an hour to get to Pig Island.  On our way back it took about 1.5 hours and we arrived  just in time to see the sunset at we were pulling into the city.  Why can't everyday be like this?  :)
